Continuing on my recent trend of fungal-acne-safe makeup & product recommendations- today I am bringing you all the fungal acne safe eyeshadows! Now- if you’re new around here, you may not know what fungal acne is. But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. A year ago, I discovered what had really been causing my skin & acne problems for 15+ years.. a nasty little fungus called malassezia! Want to learn more? I explain it all in some of my other articles.
Since I discovered I was suffering from fungal acne, I have started a journey to clearing my skin by using all fungal-acne-safe makeup and skincare products- and I have had AMAZING results!
Seriously, I will never go back to using my old products again. And I’m passionate about helping you hack your way to better skin, too – by using the best makeup and skincare products that will not feed the malassezia fungus.

The Reality of Fungal Acne Safe Makeup Products versus Hyped-Up Eyeshadow Palettes
Before I discovered fungal acne, I used to buy up ALL THE EYESHADOW PALETTES! Anastasia Beverly Hills Sultry Palette? Check. Urban Decay Naked 1, 2, & 3 Palettes? Check. Tarte Tarteist Pro Palette? Check. Those are just a few of my personal favorites, but there were many, many more.
But after the fungal acne discovery, I realized all these palettes contained ingredients that were feeding the fungus and making my skin worse. So I swore off of them in an effort to get clear skin. And it worked!
But six months later I thought: maybe I can go back to using my old eyeshadows, at least. I really miss them, and after all, it’s only going on my eyes, and not my whole face. How much harm could it do?
As it turns out, a lot of harm! As soon as I started building up the product on my eyelids, my eyes INSTANTLY began burning, itching, and watering. I hadn’t expected that severe of a reaction, but needless to say: I removed it. Nice try, Brooke!
Unfortunately, finding fungal-acne safe makeup products can be difficult. While these products do exist, they are rare unicorns! Besides that, not all of them are well-formulated, nor is there much hype surrounding them.
That said- I have made it my personal mission to prove that clear skin + amazing makeup can coexist! So without further ado, let’s dive into these eyeshadows.
Bonus Eyeliner Hack
At the end of this article, I’m also sharing my secret hack for converting any eyeshadow into a fungal-acne-safe eyeliner! So be sure to stay tuned til then.
Fungal Acne Safe Eyeshadow
1. Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Cream Eyeshadow Pots
Product Claims:
- Long wear, up to 24 hours
- Bold, super-saturated color
- Crease resistant
- Fade resistant
- Waterproof
This is one drugstore product that deserves a lot of hype. I think these shadows are easy to use, and you get a lot of bang for your buck! There’s only about 10 colors, which isn’t a stellar shade-range, but the colors are nice, buildable, and pigmented. Plus, I love a creamy formula for a wet look!
In fact, I wear the color High Roller as part of my everyday makeup look. One of my coworkers gave me a lovely back-handed compliment, accusing me of being a perfect Disney Princess because my makeup is the same everyday. To which I say: love ya, boo- but I totally disagree!
This shadow is a part of my iconic style in the same way Anna Wintour’s signature sunglasses and haircut are a part of hers.
2. Medusa’s Makeup Totally Baked | Glamrock | Eye Dust
About Medusa’s Makeup
- Indie Brand
- 4 Fungal Acne Safe Eyeshadows:
- Totally Baked
- Glamrock
- Eye Dust
- Loose Pigments
- Vegan
- Cruelty Free
- Affordable
- Huge shade range
If you haven’t heard of Medusa’s Makeup, then I am thrilled to introduce you. Two fun facts: 1) I did a first impressions video of this brand in which I swatched a lot of these eyeshadows for you, so be sure to check that out! And 2) I used these products when creating my Freddie Mercury-inspired holiday makeup look, which I loved.
On the bright side, they have 4 different shadows in their product lineup that are all fungal-acne safe: the glamrock collection, totally baked collection, eye dust, and loose pigments. And not only that, but there are so many awesome colors available! With nearly every shade of the rainbow, this brand is for those of us who want to stretch our creative muscles and have fun with makeup.
I won’t deny that the formulas are a little on the dry side, but they are still workable. Plus, these shadows are affordable. They offer a lot of different mix & match buying options for stellar deals. I’d rate these products 4/5 stars.
3. bareMinerals Loose Mineral Eyecolor
Product Claims:
- Velvety smooth
- Unbelievably blendable
- Vibrant, stay-true colors
- Won’t budge
- Weightless feel
- Meets bareMinerals Natural “Clean” Formula Standards
We’re climbing up the ladder and graduating from drugstore into the only Ulta/Sephora high-end makeup brand that has a fungal-acne-safe eyeshadow option. The one and only: bareMinerals.
I rarely use this product, but my twin sister uses it everyday, and therefore, I am well-acquainted. Straight up, this product does exactly what it claims to do. It is indeed blendable, velvety smooth, weightless, and vibrant. It isn’t easy to find all the shades in stores, but there are 26 shades available online.
Every time I see my sister wearing it, I become entranced by the shimmery little fairy eyes sparkling back at me. There is such an understated beauty to this eyeshadow.
But there is also one downside. This product is not great for creating complex, dimensional eye makeup looks. It’s simply too messy for all of that, and I prefer to use it “swipe & go” style.
4. L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Monos Eyeshadow
Product Claims:
- High pigment, exquisite color richness
- Soft, velvet texture
- Lightweight, lasts all day
- Cutting edge gel-to-powder technology for smooth application
- 20 Colors, from matte to shimmery finishes
Wow, ya’ll. The claims L’Oreal makes about this product! But let me tell you something- I didn’t even want to mention these shadows. Why not? Because they are so bad.
Simply put: these shadows are outdated. The formula is dry & chalky, like eyeshadow was in the dark ages before Youtube and beauty gurus and super hyped-up palettes. If you want to look like Mimi from The Drew Carey Show, the color Grand Bleu is for you.
Skip these, don’t waste your time or money! Unless…
My Secret Hack for Fungal Acne Safe Liquid Eyeliner in Any Color
I mentioned at the beginning of this article that I would be sharing my super secret hack for turning any of these shadows into a fungal acne safe liquid eyeliner!
Are you ready?
Medusa’s Makeup Eyeliner Seal
Ta-Da! The Medusa’s Makeup Eyeliner Seal is just the elixir we need to turn any powder shadow into a fungal-acne-safe liquid liner. It’s specifically formulated to work with their Eye Dust to create a fluid liner and enhance the color of the pigment. And you can’t beat the $8 price tag.
But the beauty is- you can use it with any powder shadow formulation. It requires a bit of a hack job, but those L’Oreal Colour Riche Monos may prove useful after all.
By the way- fungal acne safe eyeliners are few & far between, especially colored ones, so this hack has been a lifesaver for me.
