Have you recently discovered that you have Fungal Acne, or Malassezia Folliculitis?
If you’re not sure, check out my posts on this topic:
When I finally discovered that malassezia folliculitis (fungal acne) was the evil culprit behind my bad skin & eczema rashes on my body, I was a little overwhelmed. Trying to make sense of which ingredients were harmful and which products could help was not easy.
In fact, I ended up having to throw out over $1300 worth of old skincare and makeup products. ?
Luckily, I’ve now been there, done that, and I’m here to take the guesswork out of clearing your skin! And today, I’m going to start with what foundations are 100% SAFE for FUNGAL ACNE.
Break Up with Your Old (Harmful) Foundation
For starters, I know how panicked you are feeling right now. And let me assure you: it is completely okay to mourn the loss of your beloved old foundation. But repeat after me:
“Bye bye (insert your old favorite foundation here), we were good together, but to be honest – we weren’t great. You didn’t want me to have clear skin. In fact, you actively tried to sabotage me with your harmful ingredients, and I refuse to settle for that!”
A little dramatic, but seriously. I’ve made a couple of videos about which ingredients promote the growth of malassezia folliculitis. Dare you to watch and compare the list of ingredients on the back of your favorite foundation. I’ll wait.
Ok, I’ve Moved On! What’s Next?
Ok, so if you’re convinced, then I have some good news: you’re now in the market for a great, or dare I say- amazing new foundation.
I have hit the books, scanned the ingredients lists, and even taken these foundations all for test runs- you know, just in case one of them was a total fraud.
And now these 4 foundations are ready to compete for the #1 spot in your beauty routine. Which one will you choose? Keep reading for the full rundown on each contender.
1. NYX Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Foundation – $11
This affordable drugstore foundation is 100% Vegan and is available in 45 Shades – like, wow! It claims to give a 24hr full coverage, matte finish that is waterproof, smudge-proof, and lightweight.
BBBazaar Rating: 4.5/5 Stars
I give this foundation 4.5 STARS because it fully lives up to its claims. In fact, it’s so good at what it does, that blending it out may be a struggle at first. IT DRIES DOWN FAST (-.5 stars). I recommend taking a little at a time & working it in completely in sections. I also recommend applying this over a well hydrated skin- which means full on skin prep. If you take the extra time, you’ll get your moneys worth & then some. This stuff feels like you aren’t wearing foundation- which is no small feat for a high coverage, matte formula. I’m impressed. I’m also impressed by the extensive color range & just how widely available this product is. You can find it more places than not.
2. Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation – $11
Another drugstore brand which is available at my Ulta! It’s CRUELTY FREE, PARABEN FREE & A WOMEN FOUNDED BRAND! 22 Shades. It claims to be a high coverage HD liquid, giving a smooth, matte & even complexion for 24hrs.
BBBazaar Rating: 4/5 Stars *contains glycerin
I rate this foundation 4/5 stars because IMO it doesn’t fully live up to its claims. However, I still found myself reaching for it a LOT! I like the dropper feature & enjoyed dropping little bits all over my face before buffing in with a fluffy foundation brush. It doesn’t dry down too fast, making it much more user friendly. But you’re going to need multiple layers if you want an HD FULL COVERAGE look. One coat won’t quite get you there (-1 star). The 22 shade range is a good start, but we need more deep shades, Catrice! *This foundation contains glycerin
3. Dior Backstage Face & Body – $40
LUXURY BRAND, NO ANIMAL TESTING. 40 Shades. It claims to give a second skin finish with a buildable texture that achieves anything from a natural nude glow to high definition coverage. Also claims to be 91% extreme weather proof (see waterproof, sweat-proof) and 95% photo-ready finish for all women. (aka Fashion Model & their Makeup artists’ best friend) *contains glycerin
BBBazaar Rating: 4/5 Stars
Ah, Dior! Your luxury price tag has given me luxurious skin that I think feels and looks like velvet! How did you do this? This is definitely light/medium coverage and buildable. It also seems to last well throughout the day & through the elements. I’ve cried in it with no issue. That being said, my main issue with this little bottle is that it seems to oxidize on my skin, giving me a slight early 00s fake & bake-esque tinge (-1 star). It’s possible going a shade lighter will fix this, but I cannot confirm at this time. The only other thing I have to say is that I wore this under Elphaba (green witch) makeup for Halloween & it kept my skin hydrated & stain free. It gives this second layer of skin effect that I think works well for certain situations, but not all. Overall, it’s good & I know many people who swear by this stuff.
4. Lancôme Teint Idole Ultrawear Foundation – $47
LUXURY BRAND, NO ANIMAL TESTING, 50 shades. “This foundation was made for those ultra-long days that you do not have the time to retouch your makeup. Formulated with color-true NAI pigments, it maintains your skin’s pH level so that color stays put all day long, without caking or creasing. Plus, it’s infused with perlite and silica to ensure that excessive oils are absorbed, leaving behind a shine-free velvety matte complexion.” (Description taken from Lancome-usa.com)
BBBazaar Rating: 5/5 Stars
At the steep price tag of $47, this stuff should be GREAT, and I’m happy to report that it IS! This has become my holy grail foundation. Go figure, I’d go for the most expensive one on the list. This will give you a comfortable velvety matte finish in your true skin tone. This is likely down to their pH maintaining formulation. To be fair, I never wear foundation for 24 hours- but I have been known to wear this one for 16 hours & think it looked just as amazing at the end of my day as in the beginning. It’s fragrance free (I truly appreciate that more the older I get), feels nice going on, is blendable, and dries into a velvety finish- but not as matte as the NYX & Catrice. Most impressive in the color range with a whopping 50 shades! This is my current tried & true.
